How does a rice cooker work?

A rice cooker is a handy kitchen appliance that automatically cooks rice until it is perfectly cooked. You simply add rice and water to the inner pot, close the lid and turn on the appliance. The rice cooker heats the water to boiling point, after which it is gradually absorbed by the rice or evaporates.

Once all the water has gone, the rice cooker detects this via a temperature measurement. The appliance then automatically switches to the keep-warm setting. This way, the rice does not overcook and stays warm until the moment of serving.
